Maverick placed her steel hooves carefully on the grassy plain. They were soundless on the springy emrald blades. Maverick snorted and tossed her head. Nigrescent tendrils were flipped into the air and cascaded back down her muscled neck. But again the breeze captured them, painting them against the viridian of the trees and the sapphire of the sky as a black blaze fo fire. But the zephyrs poured it back down her neck.
Maverick looked back. Was Fire cracker still there? She released a whinny from her chords to see if she was still there. Her mellow cinnamon optics sweep, trying to capture the image of the newcomer.

Firecracker had fallen slightly behind her guide on their way down the mountain. The female, although rather stocky, was not used to rocky terrains, and so prefered to take her time. Not only that but Maverick had at least a hand on her, and her legs created much larger strides than that of the bay. She heard Maverick's call, and picked up the pace slightly, and in doing so, stumbling on a loose rock. In response to the other mare's call, the femme let out a shrill I hate rocks! before finally coming into Maverick's line of sight. The green foliage sure was a welcome relief after the harsh gray rocks they had just traversed. But Firecracker was in a cranky mood, and it would take more than a couple of trees to get her out of it. Where are we now? she muttered heatedly. It was just another place they would have to walk through, and in the last stumble she had scraped her front knee. It hardly hurt the mare, but it stung at her pride and was keeping her mood dark.

Maverick saw the bay come. At the sight of Firecracker falling Maverick rushed over to help her up. As she heard the I hate rocks she couldn't help but laugh. Maverick was never fond of rocks either. Her black silks tumbled down her neck in a rush as she shot forward in worry. But of course Firecracker was alright. Her harks about face to listen to her voice. We're in the Echo forest. Maverick observed the blood seeping from her knee. There might be a river or something here where you can wash that off. Maverick thrust her maw to the wound, seeing if there was anyhting stuck inside. Nothing. She lifted her head and waited for Firecracker to say when she was ready to press on.

Firecracker frowned as Maverick came close to her. She knew that the mare meant her no harm, but still. Oh hell, why did she have to be so freaking nice? Maverick was making it really hard for the smaller mare to hate her. Especially with the way that she appeared to care about some horse that she had only just met? Seriously, who does that? If some stupid, clumsy horse had fallen and scraped their knee, Firecracker probably would have just kept going, but no...this mare had to be all goody and nice. Even though Firecracker was trying really, really hard, it was becoming more and more difficult to be miserable with such a kind horse nearby. She felt her muscles slacken and relax, hating herself for it. (Yes, that was Firecracker, she hated herself whenever she started to trust someone.) It's fine. She muttered, embarrased as the other leaned in to take a closer look. She kept her eyes on the ground, making a point not to look at the other's orbs. 'Salright. Doesn't really hurt, she mumbled. It suddenly was becoming difficult for her to speak up too, as her cheeks burned from the other's kindness.

ooc: nice use of color
Maverick wasn't usually like this. Most of the time she could be hateful and violent. But she did have a giant sense of free will and pride. She could tell that the mare was upset she had fallen. It wasn't the worst thing in the world. She couldn't understand this version of pride. Afraid to admit mistakes. She shrugged it away and started into the forest.
Maverick's long strides were as fluent and efortless as talking. Her lengthy pistons flowed so easily. And her muscles churned and grinded under her tightly woven skin. The sun poured onto Maverick's golden coat, tinting it orange. She halted at the edge of the trees, pawing the ground, waiting for Firecracker.

Firecracker stared at the ground until Maverick had turned the other way. Only then did she look up. Her eyes were watering, despite her attempts to dry them out by opening up the liquid orbs as wide as possible. Why the hell was she crying? The mare became frustrated with herself. She was too touchy feely about, hell, nothing! Finally, her anger at herself cooled the tears, but did nothing for her demeaner. The bay continued on after the mare in silence, occationally losing sight of her among the trees, only to find her reappear after a moment. She trotted to catch up when she saw that Maverick had stopped, and saw to her surprise that forest had ended. Did we take a shortcut, or is that just a small forest? She asked curiously.

Maverick kept going, occasionally glancing back at the little mare. She perks her harks to better hear the mare. Her ashen lips release an answer. It was just a small thicket of trees. She speaks in her deep velvetty voice. She turns her head again, facing a small void of grassy plains and then a much vaster group of trees. She danced on her toes, waiting for Firecracker to catch up. It was very easy to get lost in a forest like this. And in the her sulking mood, Firecracker was as good as gone if Maverick were to go on ahead. She snorted and tore the earth with one of her steel hooves. The songs of birds and crickets filled her ears. A few twigs snalling as a herd of deer leaped by. Maverick flicked her tail with ease and exterminated a pest from her body. Damn annoying they were, the little vampires. She flicked away a large horse fly and continued waiting for Firecracker.

((sorry for the delay!))
Ah, that would explain why it hardly took them any time at all to cross it. Just a small thicket, but that meant that there was much more ways to go. Firecracker had secretly hoped that maybe they were done. It wasn't necessarily that her muscles were fatigued, for even though they were, the mare was used to pushing past her own pain. It was just...oh, who knows? She was beginning to like Maverick despite herself, and that scared her. She barely even knew the large mustang? What if Maverick was secretly leading her astray? Firecracker knew she couldn't take another betrayal. (She was wierd like that, afraid of getting close to people). Realizing that she had lost sight of Maverick, the vix panicked for a moment, until she realized that the other had stopped at a grassy clearing, and was simply brushing away flies. The bay drew up to her, and looked slightly disheartened by the stretch of trees still to go. But she wanted to keep going, rather than being stuck in the forest at darkfall.
((I'm sorry, I'm rushing to post this, little time. Sorry if it seems kind of scrambled))

ooc: yay your alive!
Maverick began a fluent efortless trot. She tried to keep her strides a little on the short side so Firecracker wouldn't have a hard time. She tossed her head as gnats swarmed her and tried to invade her body. A snort is set free from her and she stops to shake them away. Maverick slams a hoof to the emrald blades. The pests were annoying her badly. She loped into the cover of the trees where the bugs weren't as vicious. After getting them away she waited for Firecracker. It was extremely easy to get lost in the tightly packed trees. She stood still and squared in between a few monstorous oaks. Maverick lowered her crania to the ground and took a mouthful of grass.
ooc: sry so short, have to go.
