Naira sat wrapped in furs by her small fire, silently cursing that she soon had to rise and leave the warmth of her cozy hut. She was rather proud of her little dwelling, as she had built it herself. While she hadn’t quite gathered all the pelts that covered it on her own, a few she could claim were hers. She had lived alone ever since the passing of her mother Nadie two summers past, and her father had gone to the great spirit when she was merely a child. She held her mother’s wood and bone necklace up to the light of the fire before she fastened it about her neck, touching a hand to the coldness of it as it lay against her collar. Naira stared off into the glowing embers as she combed her fingers through her waist-length hair, splitting it into two sections and braiding them loosely from her shoulder down with narrow pieces of red cloth. She wondered when the village would return from their hunt – they had been gone many days. She hardly knew if there was anyone at all left in the village but herself. Since Naira lived on her own, she had no need to hunt buffalo like the families did, though she often accompanied them on their hunts to help provide for the village. This time she had decided to stay back. There were a few things on her list of things to do. But first, she had to go find Nidawi, the poor mare had hurt her foot yesterday – probably on a stone. If it was still not better Naira planned to apply a poultice to bring down the swelling.
Taking a deep breath, the girl shrugged off her blankets and grabbed quickly for her warmed winter clothing. Over her cloth undergarments she pulled on a deer-skin tunic and pants, then her beaded deer-skin jumper her mother had made her a year before she had died. She would have to make a new one soon, but she loved this one so. She pulled on her fur-lined boots – so warm and cozy in the winter. Feathers dangled from the sides that she took care to smooth and flatten before criss-crossing the laces up around her calves. Lastly she threw on her thick winter mantel: waist length and longer to cover her arms and hands. She straightened it so that the hood settled about her shoulders properly, and shook out the beaded tassels to untangle them. With a sigh of resignation she stood up, her fire had reduced properly to the glowing embers, and she moved some of the ash around them with a stick to protect them from going out in her absence. Grabbing her leather bag on her way out she swung it over her head as she crouched down and ducked out the entrance to her hut, replacing the hide carefully. Straightening she glanced about the village, looking for any other signs of life besides herself.
She whistled a long and low call for her mare, in the meantime strapping her rawhide knife sheath about her waist so it hung on the opposite side of her bag. The cold air bit into her lungs as she breathed in the crisp morning, at the same time pulling her long hair from beneath the layers of her clothing...

Nidawi happily munched on a fresh patch of spring grass that had grown tall in the bright sun of late. She moved along an outcropping of rocks in the little field, an ear casually flicking to the woods on her right - listening for sounds of a predator, though not really paying much attention - for who can think of predators when there is fresh grass like this around. Her brown tail flicked at the occasional pest that had found her hide just as appetizing, her muscles twitching in an attempt to dislodging the ticklish annoyance. ....except, ow; the buckskin let out a half squeal, half grunt, as one of the pesky blighters had taken a chunk out of her shoulder. She wiped her head about with teeth barred to chomp the fiend to bits - but alas, he had already flown off with a prized mouthful of her skin.
Just then, a most welcome sound had caught her attention.... It was Naira calling for her. Sweet, kind, loving Naira. The little buckskin perked up her small ears, whinnying in response to the call. She had just begun a merry pace back toward the girl, when a throbbing pain reminded her that her foot was most awfully sore....she had nearly forgotten in her excitement of finding the sweet grass and hearing her girl calling to her.
Making her way as fast as possible, the little buckskin hobbled up to the village, winding in and out of the huts and various possessions of the camp to make her way to her Naira. She whinnied to the familiar figure as she approached, immediately shoving her nose into the crook of the girl's arm with a delighted whuff...

Nidawi noticed the boy before Naira had, and gave a soft gutteral whicker, bumping the girl's shoulder as she brought her head up to better look at him.
Naira turned at the sound of the boy's voice, taking in the face she had often seen but had never introduced herself to. Truth be told, she had been rather shy of 'boys', especially now that her mother was gone and she had no one close to talk to - except Nidawi of course. The girl slid her hand up the mare's neck and entwined her fingers in her mane, taking comfort in the familar warmth and feel of the mare's sandy hide.
She smiled rather shyly at the boy, " Hi.. " She wondered what had made him come over... though she welcomed the company.

He smiled back "I'm Adahy, whats your name? May I come in?" he waited for an answer from the girl with her horse. he looked the horse over, the horse was great, he wished he had one, but he couldn't get one until he wwent pon the hunt and his father absolutly refused to let him. (Dead, no muse, just returned from drivers ed.)

(no fence... she just roams close to the village, she's pretty bonded to Naira. i'll just play at like "may i come over?" )
The girl continued to smile softly and nodded her answer to his question. She wasn't so much shy, as she was just quiet, though many often mistook her; she just accepted the fact, for people would think what they will, and she wasn't about to try to convince them otherwise. Actually, Naira was quite fond of being around people, and meeting others... "Adahy..." she repeated almost half to herself, "I always meant to come and say hello...My name is Naira." She smiled again, "and this is Nidawi." Silence. This was where most became awkward; Naira was prepared for that. She simply took her eyes from the boy and gazed fondly at her mare, running her hand down the sandy neck to the mare's shoulder.
Nidawi reached her sooty muzzle towards the unfamiliar boy, whuffling as she caught his scent in widened nostrils. The ear closest her girl flicked between the boy and her companion - still wondering if he was alright to trust....though she had never had any problems with any of the other two-leggeds.

He smiled "Its nicve to meet you Naira, and also you Nidawi." his eyes watched her, he then crossed the padock towards the horse. He held his hand out to the Nidawi and asked "Does she bite?"

The girl glanced back to him as she continued to stroke the mare's neck, smiling again as he came up to them... "No, she doesn't bite... She's a good mare, aren't you Nidawi..."
As the boy moved closer, Nidawi kept an ear trained on Naira, looking for cues that this approaching boy was 'alright'... When Naira made no signs of being worried or getting ready to run, the buckskin mare heaved a sigh, both ears now trained on this new person with interest. An outstretched hand meant an invitation to search for some form of treat, and that's just what Nidawi did... Reaching out her whiskered muzzle to nose at the boy's hand, she wiggled her upper lip to ensure nothing was stuck to this hand that could be edible...tilting her head slightly as she found no treats on top, she nosed his hand from underneath. With a huff, she pulled her head away, and contented herself with lipping at the tassles on Naira's mantle...
Naira giggled quietly, "I guess she figured you brought her something to eat." Stopping down, the girl ran both her hands down the mare's left front leg, feeling for any heat. When she reached the mare's hoof she clucked softly. Nidawi lifted her foot obediently, lipping at Naira's back - that one hurt!

Kaliska grasped the soft rope reins of Sayeen, propping herself comfortably on the soft blanket gently spread over the mare's bay and white back. She was leaned forward, her chest above the thick muscled neck of her horse. Her cream colored mane wafted in the breeze, tickling the bottom of her chin and neck. Kaliska closed her eyes, breathing in the crisp morning air. Her lungs were raw from the early winter winds. Lucky she had a warm horse under her. Sayeen's muscles grunded and churned under her in her easy canter. Kaliska had loved this horse because of her easy gaits first, then she learned to love the friendship and compassion she had to offer. Her gaits were easy to manage with out Kaliska needing to grasp fistfuls of mane and wrap her arms around the horses neck. Sayeen's canter was smooth, so smooth it was like sitting on the soft earth. The decorative feathers on her reins fluttered and flicked around her muzzle. The soft drumming of the mares hooves plodded easily on the frozen earth. Sayeen's limbs carefully manuevered herself across the earth, tearing little scars and indenting her prints into the mud. Kaliska threw her head into the air, pure joy flooding into her veins. The girl's long black hair soared behind her like an ebony flame. A cry of pure joy left her and rang across the morning air.
~*~
Sayeen lofted a brow at the young two legged's antics. She whuffled contently, continueing with her rocking horse three beat. Her fluffy winter silks sheilded her delicate skin from the harsh winds that whipped across the plain into the village that was in the distance. Her warm cinnamon eyes looked to the distance, seeing the tents, and billows of smoke rising from a fire. Good. Sayeen had been waiting for a break from traveling with her owner and hoped for some well earned rest. The loose reins gently batted her neck, rubbing across her hide. The bay paint's cream colored tail swatted her sides out of boredom. Being with her owner, her sweet wonderful owner, Kaliska, was fin and all, but doing this for moons in a row could get a bit dull. She was interested in the new surrondings. Sayeen picked up a faster gait. Long galloping strides carrying them faster and farther. She nickered happily surging forward eagerly.

ooc: sorry that took so long. Been busy with exams. It's not great, but it'll have to do for now.
Nidawi's head raised from her girl's shoulder with a soft whicker of interest. Hoofbeats could be heard approaching the village, and she wondered who's they were. The village had been pretty quiet as of late, winter's cold grip had the villager's snug in their huts, making for a lonely existence when one had no family to speak of. Naira's parents had both passed into the arms of the great spirit, leaving her alone. At least she had Nidawi.
Naira let her hand glide up the crest of the buckskin's neck, entwining her fingers in the mare's soft mane just behind her ears.. "What is it, Nidawi? Do you hear something?"
The melded silhouette of horse and rider soon became apparent out on the flat plain to the east of the village. Naira wondered who it was. She didn't know too many people in the village, ever since her mother had passed away she had kept mostly to herself.
Snow swirled at her feet, as she stood next to her mare, cozied up to the warm shoulder of the buckskin.
